Project Description:
HMB provided engineering design and construction inspection services for the extension of Taxiway "C" (Charlie) at the Nashville International Airport in Nashville, Tennessee. The concrete extension, when completed, increased the length of the taxiway 1,500 feet to a total of 9,420 feet. The extension of taxiway C provided for complete use of the runway and for improved storage of airplanes. The taxiway pavement consisted of 18" Portland cement concrete and 9" crushed aggregate base of most of the project with a transitional area consisting of FAA bituminous concrete surface. The taxiway shoulders were paved with TDOT bituminous concrete surface. Medium intensity taxiway lights and signage were installed for this new section. The extension of Taxiway Charlie allows Boeing 747's (for international flights), full use of the runway, and improves access to storage areas.
